Praying the “Nothing is Impossible for God” Texts of the Bible: For Prayer Times that Engage, Edify, and Exalt the Lord
/Often when I am feeling fearful or overwhelmed, I turn to my list of “Nothing is Impossible for God” verses. As I read through verse after verse where God proclaims His might, power, and intentions to do good and act on behalf of His children, my heart gains strength. Do you need those assurances today?
Take some time to read the surrounding context of the verse references below, scanning the stories of God’s deliverance and rescue for His children. It is good to be reminded of our great and mighty God when we feel overwhelmed in the present, fearful for the future, and inadequate in ourselves.
Numbers 11:23: “The Lord said to Moses, ‘Is the Lord’s power limited? Now you shall see whether My word will come true for you or not.’”
In this passage, Lord, You announce Your intention to provide meat abundantly for the nation for a whole month. When Moses objects to Your plan and wonders how You could provide that much meat for the whole nation for a month, You ask Moses if Your power is limited. Oh, Lord, there is no limit to Your power, Your resources, or Your might. When You proclaim something, whether it is to Moses, or recorded to us in Your Word as a promise that transcends time, we can trust You. Your Word stands. If You say You will do something then it will surely come to pass. Your power is not limited.
Job 42:2: “I know that You can do all things, and that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.
After God reminds Job of His power and might over all created things, a humbled Job acknowledges that You, Lord, can do all things. Nothing is beyond Your grasp or the scope of Your creative, working power. If You purpose something, there is nothing on earth that can thwart it. Your purposes will come to pass. In Job’s case, it was trial upon trial to teach him, but to also teach us, that Your ways are not our ways, Your thoughts are not our thoughts, and that whatever You purpose can and will be used for good in our lives—and Your glory.
Psalm 68:20: “God is to us a God of deliverances; and to God the Lord belong escapes from death.
Lord, what sweet meditations are contained in the words of this verse. You, God, are a God of deliverances. It is Your character and nature to deliver. You are also a God of many deliverances. You deliver Your children continually, over and over again. Your power and sovereignty is so perfect, mighty, and complete that You alone are able to deliver Your children.
Psalm 74:12: “Yet God is my king from of old, who works deeds of deliverance in the midst of the earth.”
Not only, Lord, do You deliver Your children, You also work deeds of deliverance. You actively rescue and deliver us in the midst of the earth. Here, today, on earth, in the hour when we need You most, you work deeds of deliverance. Your Word doesn’t tell us how You will do it, only that You will. You, great king from of old, before time began, can be trusted in each and every peril and distress.
Proverbs 16:1: “The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.”
What a comfort, Lord, to know that though man has plans and purposes that distress us, You in Your sovereign power, turn their plans to Your will, so that their every answer is from You. When I am distressed by the things I hear or the things I fear someone will say, help me to rest knowing that You purpose and use every answer of the tongue for our good and Your glory.
Proverbs 19:21: “Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the counsel of the Lord will stand.”
Man has many plans, and often they are distressing to hear about, but Your plan and Your will stands. Nothing is impossible with You, Lord! Though man may plan evil against me, You will hide me in the shadow of Your wings.
Proverbs 21:1: “The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He wishes.”
Oh, Lord, the sovereignty of Your will and way is put on display in these verses in Proverbs. You turn man’s heart the way You direct and turn the mighty rivers, the way You hem in the seas. You turn man’s heart in the direction You desire and will. Because You are always good, always right, always just, we can trust the ways in which you lead us and the ways in which You lead other men. Nothing is too difficult for You!
Isaiah 40:27–31: “Why do you say, O Jacob, and assert, O Israel, ‘My way is hidden from the Lord, and the justice due me escapes the notice of my God’? Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.
Lord, when we read that our ways are not hidden from You, it pours such a balm over our fretful and fearful hearts. Our ways are not hidden from You! You see and know all the details of our lives. Nothing escapes Your notice! When we grow tired, You do not. You are ever vigilant, ever sustaining. Thank you for strengthening us in our weakness. Thank you that even when the strongest of the strong grow weary, Your children can gain new strength because You strengthen them. There is nothing too difficult for You!
Jeremiah 32:17: “Ah Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You.” Jeremiah 32:27: “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?”
What a treasure to remember, Lord, that You made the heavens and earth by Your great power. You stretch out Your arm, You speak the worlds into existence. Nothing is too difficult for You! Help us to grasp the might and grandeur of these truths when we are overwhelmed with things that are beyond our power or ability to even cope with. You are mighty. We are weak. You are never hindered in anything You desire to accomplish, though we are. Nothing is too difficult for You!
Daniel 4:34-37: “But at the end of that period, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever; for His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom endures from generation to generation. All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, but He does according to His will in the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of earth; and no one can ward off His hand Or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’ At that time my reason returned to me. And my majesty and splendor were restored to me for the glory of my kingdom, and my counselors and my nobles began seeking me out; so I was reestablished in my sovereignty, and surpassing greatness was added to me. Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are true and His ways just, and He is able to humble those who walk in pride.”
Lord, nothing is too difficult for You! You took the most prideful man on earth, Nebuchadnezzar, and humbled him so that he praised your name. Lord, You are worthy of all praise and honor and glory. Your dominion over the earth is everlasting. It will never come to an end. You always do Your will. No one can thwart Your plans and purposes. Your deeds are true, right, and just. You always give grace to the humble, but You are opposed to the proud. May we humble ourselves under Your right and perfect rule. Your will cannot be thwarted.
Luke 1:37: “For nothing will be impossible with God.”
As the angel told Mary that God intended her to bear His Son, the angel proclaimed, “Nothing will be impossible with God.” Lord, You are never hindered by anything. The things on my mind, the things in my heart that are beyond my ability to see how they can be fixed, can be fixed by You. Nothing is impossible with You, God! You see things differently than I do, and so You bring about things in ways I could never conceive—all for our good and Your glory. May You be put on display, Lord, in Your works, plans, purposes, Word, and ways!
Now review all those verses with any burdens, fears, or worries you have. Take each one and apply the healing oil of the Word to it, reminding yourself of God’s character and nature, so that you too can proclaim, “Nothing is too difficult for You, Lord!”
