“The Lovey Letters” spring from my desire to keep in touch with my “Loveys” during the Coronavirus quarantine. It’s hard to be separated from each other. I confess that like Paul, I will “really live, if you stand firm in the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 3:6-8).” I long to hear that they are persevering in the faith, turning to the Lord, using the time well, and finding their souls filled up in Jesus. The Lovey Letters are my way of spending time with each dear one, so that they are built up in the faith, strengthened, spurred on, and growing ever more steadfast.
The videos for each “lovey letter” are on the blog page too!
Our faith is strengthened and built up when we reflect upon the Lord, His character, and His life-changing Word—and don’t we need it! Someone commented that “2020” will become synonymous with “crazy.” I agree! Our world is seriously “2020” right now! Never could we have predicted the events that have unfolded in these last months—from the lockdowns to the riots and all the in-between. If we aren’t immersing ourselves in the Word of God, we will flounder in the midst of these unfamiliar, bewildering, and discouraging times.
Pecking is natural for chickens, yet when chickens begin to peck at each other, it reveals something is wrong. The same can be said for us, which is why I want to encourage you to guard against pecking at each other during this strange season of quarantine life, specifically regarding the way fellow peeps exercise their freedoms according to the Scriptures. If ever there was an opportunity to love each other well, it's now!
Right now, as the whole world experiences the tucked away training that takes place in “mom life” living, God is building something deeper and longer lasting. Psalm 16:5-6 forms the foundation for a contented spirit in any chicken coop.
Now you might think that pecking at God’s Word sounds a bit flighty, but if we’re going to stick with our chicken coop theme, then it’s helpful to know that chickens are actually quite persistent, passionate, purposeful, and personally committed in their search for food. May we be equally so in searching for the all sustaining Word “that proceeds out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).
How you live in your little chicken coop, cooped up or not, reveals God’s work in you. Don’t put all your eggs in that one basket that life will soon return to “normal.” We don’t know how long the Lord intends this trial and testing. We do know that He will give the grace we need to respond well in every circumstance (1 Corinthians 10:13, 31). Seek to follow the Lord Jesus as closely as you can, which will bless the rooster and any little chicks cooped up with you in the hen house.
