Why We Do What We Do

My husband, Jack Hughes, wrote this page to explain how the Word of God drives how we teach and minister to others. The Scriptures provide the foundation for all that we do and his explanation below reveals how we have put that into practice in our ministries.

The Word of God, the Authority of Our Ministry

God has chosen His Word, the Bible to be the primary means of saving (I Pet. 1:23) and growing people in godliness (Jn. 17:17-19; I Thess. 2:13). In the Scriptures believers have everything they need for life, godliness (II Pet. 1:3), and to be equipped for every good work (II Tim. 3:15-17). Our ministry is based on the belief that the Bible is the sole authority for all matters of faith and practice and is the only reliable source of objective, inspired, inerrant, revelation from God to man (Isa. 40:8; Psa. 119:160; II Pet. 1:20-21). Thus the authority of our ministry does not come from ourselves, but from the diligent study and accurate interpretation of the Word of God alone (II Tim. 2:15).

The Emphasis of Our Ministry

God has given both of us gifts and training to teach and preach the Word of God. Others have affirmed these gifts. Therefore the emphasis of our ministry is to “equip the saints for the work of the ministry” (Eph. 4:11-13). Our goal is first to accurately study the Word of God using the historical, grammatical, and literal method of interpretation in order to discover what the original author meant for the original audience to understand by what was written. After arriving at the single interpretation of a text we then seek to reveal the timeless principles from the text and how those principles practically apply to the lives of Christians today. Lisa serves in a variety of ministries to women (I Tim. 2:11-12; Tit. 2:3-5). Jack ministers to both men and women (I Tim. 4:13; II Tim. 4:1-2; Tit. 1:7-9).

The Method of Our Ministry

Through teaching, preaching, writing, and modeling the gospel we seek to see those who do not know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior come to repentance and faith and those who already know Jesus Christ in a saving way to grow in godliness.
