Early Years

Jack was born in Lompoc, California. He lived in Ventura and Ojai, California until his early teens, finishing up high school in Garden Valley, Idaho, a small town about 50 miles north of Boise, Idaho. During his junior year of high school Jack was drawn to the Savior through the testimony of his brother Tim and by reading the Word of God. Jack was baptized into Roman Catholicism as an infant, yet his desire to understand the Word of God led him to search for a church that would teach him the Scriptures. His journey led him first to Seventh Day Adventism, then to a Baptist church, and finally to an independent Bible Church which practiced expository preaching.

Family and Hobbies

Jack first met his wife to be at a Campus Crusade for Christ meeting while attending college at Boise State University. Jack and Lisa have been happily married since 1984. They have three grown children, Leah, Nate, and Mark. In the past Jack has enjoyed fly fishing, bow hunting, reading, woodworking, and gardening.

Education

Jack earned a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in electronics technology from Boise State University (1987), his Master’s of Divinity degree from The Master’s Seminary in Sun Valley, California (1991), and a Doctorate of Ministry degree in expository preaching from Westminster Theological Seminary in Escondido, California (2001). As part of his doctoral program Jack wrote a book for preachers called Expository Preaching with Word Pictures: with Illustrations from the Sermons of Thomas Watson. The book aims at helping biblical expositors become engaging and clear preachers who can fix the truths of God's Word into the minds of their hearers.

Ministries

Before attending seminary Jack served in a variety of ministries including Sunday School teacher, Campus Crusade for Christ Bible study leader and summer campus director, singles ministry leader, and junior high school pastor. After graduating from The Master’s Seminary Jack pastored and helped plant three churches in Idaho, preaching expositionally and teaching a variety of classes. From 2000 to 2012 God called Jack to Calvary Bible Church in Burbank, California where he served as Pastor-Teacher.

While in Burbank Jack also served as adjunct associate professor at The Master’s Seminary, and Cornerstone Seminary.  He serves as an advisory elder for a new church plant in the heart of London called Grace Life London. He has also published articles for various theological journals.  Jack has ministered world wide as a conference speaker and trainer of preachers.
